Traffic results February

The month of February showed a decline in KLM passenger numbers. KLM had 2.7% fewer passengers on board this month compared to the same month last year. With a decrease of 3.2% in passenger kilometers and a higher capacity of seat kilometers of 1.8%, the load factor decreased with 4.3%-pt compared to the same month last year. Passenger volumes decreased significantly by 23.7% on destinations in Asia. There was an increase in passenger numbers on destinations in North America. This was partly due to the opening of the new destinations las Vegas and Boston.

The month of January showed an increase in KLM passenger numbers. KLM had 3.7% more passengers on board this month compared to the same month last year. With a higher transport of 2.9% in passenger kilometers and a higher capacity of seat kilometers of 2.9%, the load factor of 87.2% remained the same compared to the same month last year. Passenger growth was particularly visible at destinations in Europe, North Africa, Asia and North America.

With a higher transport of 3.0% in passenger kilometers and a higher capacity of seat kilometers of 2.4%, the load factor increased slightly compared to the same month last year. Passenger growth was particularly visible at destinations in Europe, North Africa, Asia and North America.

The month of September showed an increase in KLM passenger numbers. KLM had 5.1% more passengers on board this month compared to the same month last year. With a higher transport of 4.4% in passenger kilometers and a higher capacity of seat kilometers of 4.0%, load factor rose slightly compared to the same month last year. Passenger growth was particularly visible at destinations in Europe, North Africa, Asia and North America.

The month of July showed an increase in KLM passenger numbers. Freight, on the other hand, had a sharp decline. KLM had 2.2% more passengers on board this month compared to the same month last year. With a higher transport of 1.6% in passenger kilometers and a higher capacity of seat kilometers of 1.2%, the occupancy rate remained virtually stable compared to the same month last year. Passenger growth was particularly visible at destinations in Europe, North Africa, Asia and North America. Substantial declines were seen in South America and the Middle East.

KLM’s traffic figures improved in May. We welcomed 4.6% more passengers on board than we did in the same month last year. With revenue passenger kilometres up 2.6% and available seat kilometres up 1.6%, load factor increased by 0.9% compared to May last year. The growth in passenger traffic was mainly driven by destinations in Europe, North Africa, North America and Asia.

Following consistent strong growth in previous months, KLM’s traffic figures flattened out in February, partly due to growth restrictions at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

The same trend was visible at Transavia where increased traffic measured in RPKs exceeded additional capacity, consequently boosting passenger load factor. Cargo load factor came under pressure last month at KLM Cargo as a result of a steep decline in traffic volumes (-2.3% RFTKs) in relation to capacity (-1.3% AFTKs). Consequently, cargo load factor declined by 0.8% points to 70%.

September saw the passenger load factor drop slightly to 89.7% (-0.4%^pts). This was due to higher capacity in available seat kilometres (+2.0% ASKs) compared to lower traffic growth in revenue passenger kilometres (+1.5% RPKs).

This slight drop had a number of causes combined with a fall in load factor in Europe. There was robust growth in passenger traffic on North and South American routes, while capacity and traffic to African and Asian destinations decreased.

The load factor for KLM Cargo rose to 66.4% (+1.3%^pts), because capacity decreased (-4.3% ATKs) more than traffic (-2.4% RTKs).

At Transavia, while capacity remained more or less the same, traffic grew somewhat, resulting in a higher load factor.

KLM July traffic figures: Further increases for KLM Passenger and Cargo business

Following a period of uninterrupted growth, load factor saw a slight drop for the first time in five months to 91.3% (-0.3%^pts). The decrease is the result of greater capacity in seat kilometres (+1.6% ASKs) compared to traffic growth in passenger kilometres (+1.2% RPKs). The drop in load factor was most visible to North, Central, and South American destinations.

KLM Cargo showed positive results in July. Traffic increased by 2.7% against a drop in capacity of 1.4%. The result was an increase in cargo load factor of 2.5%^pts to 65%. Transavia welcomed fewer passengers in July than in the same month the previous year. With decreased traffic and capacity, load factor decreased slightly as a result of the earlier suspension of activities in Munich.

KLM traffic June 2018

KLM welcomed 3.6% more passengers in June this year, with capacity up 2.2% in available seat kilometres. Consequently, load factor for June rose to a record 90.5%.

Looking at the first six months of 2018, we see that our revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs) are up 5.4%, with capacity up 4.2% compared to the first half of last year. This resulted in a 1% increase in load factor during the first half of the year, in which KLM welcomed 16.6 million passengers, up from 15.6 million in the first half of 2017.

KLM Cargo kept its traffic virtually stable during the first half of the year, while reducing capacity by 1.9%, which led to a 1.2% increase in load factor to 66.3%.

Transavia saw its load factor rise by 2.9% in the first half of 2018, with traffic up 3.3% and capacity down slightly.

KLM carried more than 30 million passengers in 2016

During the first week of this year, KLM was named Europe’s safest airline by the German body Jet Airliner Crash Data Evaluation Centre (JACDEC), and ranked 5th worldwide.

Elsewhere, the 2016 Punctuality Report issued by OAG concluded that KLM had the best on-time performance among European airlines, ranking 3rd worldwide.

KLM Cargo

At KLM Cargo traffic was down 9.8% and capacity down 8.3%. We saw a slight improvement in December, which may be a sign that the tide is changing.
