KLM and Airbnb partnership kicks off

Summary

Airbnb, the world's leading community driven hospitality company, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines today announced that they will be entering into a long term partnership. To introduce the cooperation KLM recently transformed an airplane into an apartment and listed it on Airbnb.

Airbnb and KLM both connect people around the world and our product portfolios are complimentary: no long flight without accommodation. And since both companies share a passion in offering their customers an inspiring travel experience, it made perfect sense to join forces.

Airbnb guests and KLM travellers look for many of the same things when they travel; homey comfort, great experiences and a personal touch. With KLM’s great flight connections to off-the-beaten-track destinations such as Bogota and Almatay, there's plenty of opportunity to explore Airbnb listings in 190 countries, including apartments, houses, villas, tree houses, boats and even igloos.

As part of this longer term partnership, KLM travellers will be able to search for a place to stay on Airbnb through the KLM website along with their flight booking. KLM's inspiring travel guide shows accommodations on over 600 destinations around the world. Early next year unique places to stay will also be available on the homepage of KLM’s website.

To mark the start of the cooperation, KLM and Airbnb created a KLM aircraft apartment at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Three lucky winners had a chance to stay at the KLM airplane apartment: a family from Rotterdam with four-year-old twin boys who got to experience the inside of a real airplane for the first time, a couple from Rome celebrating the husband’s birthday by cooking in the airplane galley, and two young ladies from Jamaica and the United States respectively, happily reunited in Amsterdam after being too busy to meet for years.

Although this apartment was available for a limited time, there are over one million other Airbnb listings to choose from in nearly every country KLM travels to.
